Asheville's healing mountain energy was birthed by the coming together of the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountain ranges, as ancient as the oldest mountain ranges and conceived to have once been as high as the Himalayan mountains. Privy to bikers, kayakers, mountain climbers and all flavors of outdoorsmen and women, the solitude, wonderment and beauty of the mountains welcomes all with its vivid colors, warmth and crispness, and ancient majesty. Waterfalls, trails and more hiking trails embrace you into symbiosis with the mountains. A short drive from Asheville in a few directions lead to different snowboarding and skiing adventures in the cold season.

Many 'green' and health conscious businesses such as B&B's, supermarkets, and fresh local food sources. Even all night vegan eateries, vegetarian catering / specialty restaurants, and farmers markets and food co-ops can be found all over. Also, the city has been written up as one of America's Best Eco-Neighborhoods.

A short drive from Asheville harbors master craftsmen of all kinds of arts, in clay, mixed media, stone and metals, which can be found in collected places such as the Southern Highland Craft Guild and the live displays at the Folk Art Center. The Folk Art Center has been written up in Asheville community news. Many highly skilled artists are represented in Woolworth Walk as one of the showcase galleries downtown. Many artisans reside in the River Arts District, a once industrial converted area containing galleries, workshops and the wonderful flavor of Clingman Cafe.

For those who like to treat themselves, many spas some which come to you, or luxury spas and hot mineral springs. Or find it in an Asian Experience at Shoji. Before that you may want to check out some of Asheville's finest restaurants like Rezaz, Bouchon, Fig Bistro, Corner Kitchen or Thai Basil. Laurey's Yum has great catering and in house food, Doc Chey's Noodle House with healthy thai food, or the Laughing Seed vegetarian cuisine.

Many commercial stores offer all your needs including a large scale mall, Wal-mart, Target, and other necessity stores. Downtown, local business sell progressive clothing, as well as a wide array of any other clothing you may need. Quality local businesses sell custom sandals, local jewelry, world-famous chocolates, local beer brews, wonderful and simple dining, tobacco head shops, coffee and books, and the ever famous Lexington Avenue complete with archaic finds in Downtown Books and News, vintage clothing, tattooists, skate shops, and other fringe style businesses.

Icons like the Fine Arts Theater, Malaprops Bookstore, Grey Eagle Listening Room, the Grove Arcade open air market, and the boyhood home of the writer Thomas Wolfe are dispersed all over downtown.

Cultural, music, and other events are hosted at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and Civic Center and Diane Wortham Theater,  both public centers bringing a diverse range of experiences to Asheville.

To come and stay a while, many short term and long term possibilities are available. Hotels are downtown and nearby, and rentals for houses, condos, as well as getaways all over town and surrounding areas.

Festivals hosted downtown allow many different breweries to show their stuff on the streets along with vendors and whoever wants to show up to be part of the fun at events like Shindig on the Green, Bele Chere, Downtown after 5, Goombay, as well as many other events. Highland Brewing, French Broad Brewery, Asheville Pizza  as well as the pubs that carry them.

Unique experiences like LaZoom Tours that give tour infused with comedy and captivating stories, Cinebarre which offers food service with a smile and local brews, Great Smoky Mountain Railroads adventure trip, Chimney Rock scenic park which was recently purchased by the state, Grandfather Mountain swinging bridge overlook, Ghost Town historic them park, the Blue Ridge Parkway scenic byway, the poet Carl Sandburg's home, the Flat Rock Playhouse, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which houses some of the most beautiful natural scenery and wildlife next to Yellowstone.

Worldwide known attractions such as the Grove Park Inn and Biltmore Estate are one of a kind places. The Biltmore estate is a self-sufficient privately owned estate, the largest in the country and 2nd most visited.  The Grove Park Inn offers luxury rooms viewing the downtown skyline, a golf course, spa, and many different events and things to do.
